The lovely Nymph
The daughter of the river god Ladon, she was an extremely charming nymph, whose beauty aroused lustful Pan’s unrestrained desires. He once he chased Syrinx, who fled in horror. When he reached and embraced her, she implored the gods and her father to save her. Her plea was heard immediately and she was turned into reed.
To have a keepsake of the beloved Syrinx, Pan cut tubes out of the reeds and joined them with wax, thus becoming the inventor of the panpipes.
